ETA Executive Committee Discussed with H.E Hailemariam Dessalegn, Prime Minister of FDRE PDF Print E-mail

Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) Convenes its Congress every four years up on which policy of the association is evaluated and revised and /or election of the executive committee is held. So as to introduce the newly elected members of the ETA executive committee and based on the decision of the Ethiopian Teachers Association yearly Council held in Oromia region in shashemane town form 19-20 September 2013, ETA requested the Prime Minister to have a talk on pertinent issues of teachers, education and overall development priority agenda of the country. Accordingly, members of the executive committee at headquarters had a discussion on modality of providing housing for teachers, creating better working conditions for teachers, on good governance and peaceful learning environment.

On the occasion ETA leadership presented the activities the association has been doing which includes supervision that has been made to check for proper implementation of the quality improvement six programs under way, the training provided for science and Mathematics secondary & primary school teachers as well as the ‘Hello science’ TV broadcast, and the effort made to improve external relations of ETA.

Center of the discussion was the issue of providing housing for teachers as a main strategy to improve teachers’ working conditions. Moreover, questions being raised by University teachers were also presented. Further the plan that ETA has to reconstruct its headquarters, the role of ETA in contributing towards good governance, preserving the peaceful teaching-learning situation of schools was discussed. The deliberation was not only productive but also the ETA leadership is motivated and inspired by the initiative of the Prime Minister to support ETA in order to attain its objectives.
