The 23rd Annual Council meeting of ETA was held at Hawassa city, capital of SNNPR, from 14-16 October 2010. The opening speech was delivered by H.E. Mr. Shiferaw Shigute, Chief Administrator of Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR).

Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA), the oldest pioneer of democratic struggle for quality education, and teachers’ rights and benefits in Ethiopia, had celebrated “The October 5th World Teacher Day 2010 ” from 11-12 October 2010 at Hawassa, the capital of SNNP regional state, in collaboration with Hawasa University Teachers’ Association. Three hundred fifty participants from government officials, non-government organization representatives, teachers’ association leaders including all the universities and teachers attended the two days conference.

Every year Education Congress meeting is held being lead by the Federal Ministry of Education.
This year’s education congress was held from 20-21 July 2010 in Bahir Dar city, capital of Amhara regional state, located in northern part of Ethiopia.

ETA participated in the ILO conference PDF Print E-mail

99th session of ILO was held at the head quarters, Geneva from 2-18 June, 2010.
Ethiopian Teachers’ Association (ETA) was invited to the conference by WFTU and therefore, president of ETA, Mr. Yohannes Benti, represented the association to the conference.

During the session, various speakers from different countries expressed their concern about the growing unemployment, impact of the economic crisis and decrease in decent living conditions.

Ethiopia is a country where many nations and nationalities live together in harmony. It is a country following federal form of government with its estimated population 75 million in 2008 covering 1,104,300 Km2. Ethiopia is a country where the head quarter of African Union Commission is situated.

Ethiopia conducts its 4th general election in May 2010. Reports confirm that 92 national and region political parties are legally registered and most of them are contesting for the leadership.
