Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA), which has more than 270,000 members in 2008, celebrated its 60th year founding anniversary by organizing different events.
On 28th February 2009, Papers which dealt with ETA’s successes & shortcomings during the last 60 years as well as the status of education quality in Ethiopia were presented by professionals.
On the same day, teachers and different organizations received an award prepared for
them by the Association. Accordingly Amhara & Oromia Regional States received their award from the hands of His Excellency Mr. Girma W/Giorgis, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is a federal government body established in 2001 by proclamation No. 235/2001 and later replaced by proclamation No. 433/2005.
One of the objectives of the commission as provided in the revised establishment proclamation 433/2008 is to create an aware society that does not condone or tolerate corruption by promoting ethics and anti- corruption education.
Significant number of teachers who are members of Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) are involved in teaching Civic and Ethical education, one of the subjects being thought in Ethiopia Education system which contribute towards creating a generation who stand against corruption.

Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) - Ethiopia has organized study tour for Ethiopian Teachers’ Association and Basic Education Association Ethiopia representatives & for staff of VSO Ethiopia to Tanzania to share experiences in promoting valuing teachers by visiting different organization working on education and Teacher issues form 10th- 14th November 2008.
Members of the study tour were Mr. Belay Adise, VSO-Ethiopia Education programme manager, Ms Julia Lalla- Maharajh VT Advocacy advisor, VSO- Ethiopia (Volunteer), Mr. Awal Nurhussien, Research, Advocacy and Communication Acting Head of Basic Education Association Ethiopia, Mr Yohannes Benti, President of Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) and Mr. Anteye Kebede, Vice president of Ethiopian Teachers Association.
World Teachers’ Day celebrated PDF Print E-mail

World Teachers' Day is celebrated every year on October 5th to commemorate the anniversary of the signing in 1966 of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the status of teachers. Every year, this day presents an occasion to draw attention to the crucial role teachers play in providing quality education for all to attain EFA/MDGs.
Every year, since 2004, ETA celebrates the Day using the theme selected by organizing events as the case may be in collaboration with stakeholders.
The theme of the 2008 world Teachers' Day is 'Teachers Matter'.
This year, a one day event was organized in the ETA building which is secured after long judicial procedure.
ECOSOCC General Assembly Launched PDF Print E-mail

Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC)is an important advisory organ of the African union (AU) made up of two elected representatives of Civil society organizations of AU member states among others.
The first General Assembly of the ECOSOCC was made from 7-9 September 2008 and the Council was launched on 9 September 2008 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania presided by HE president Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, current chair of the Union and president of the united Republic of Tanzania.
