Every Year National Education Congress convenes to evaluate the overall implementation of Education and Training policy to attain overall objective of the country.
This year, the congress was held from 25-29August 2008 in Harari Regional state, in Harari city which is registered by UNESCO for its amazing cultural heritage.
Participants of the congress are various Departments of Ministry of Education, ETA representatives, Regional Education Bureaus including the bureau heads & Regional Teachers Association representatives.

As already stated in its statutes, Ethiopian Teachers Association Convenes its General Congress every four year.
The Congress was made as per the direction given from the national ETA council meeting held from11-15 October 2007 in Amhara Regional State Capital in Bahir Dar. Accordingly Regional Teachers' Associations have conducted their General Congress at all levels.
The ETA General congress which was held from18-19 July 2008 in Oromia Regional state, Adama city, was opened by an opening remark made by HE Abadula Gemeda, head of the Oromia Regional State.

Ethiopia is one of those countries that showed sharp increase in educational expansion. The increase in gross enrolment for primary education increased from 30% in 1996 to more that 93% in 2007. There is also substantial increase in enrolment at secondary and tertiary levels. As a whole there is a remarkable increase in enrolment.
However, quality is at the center of every level of education.
The focus on expansion in the Ethiopian Education system has to be changed except in emerging regions like Afar & Somali where participation is by far below national average.
The highly increased participation has resulted in lack of quality. Having recognized this problem, the third Education Sector Development Programme (ESDP III) has focused in improving quality of education. Accordingly what is known as General Education Quality Improvement Programme (GEQIP) focusing on,

Every year, the Global Action Week (GAW) is celebrated all over the world. The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) action week is an event organized by Basic Education Association in Ethiopia (BEAE) in collaboration with its partners.
The Global Action Week for this year is from April 21-27 in Ethiopia. The year's message is "Quality Education to End Exclusion" The target groups of the campaign are politicians and policy makers/ officials, donors and the general public.
To make the campaign effective, national coordinating committee was formed. Apart from being member of the national coordinating committee, ETA was selected to be member of workshop organizing sub committee.
ETA won election for membership in ECOSOCC assembly PDF Print E-mail

Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) of the African Union is established guided by the common vision of a united and strong Africa and the need to build partnerships between governments and civil society in order to strengthen cohesion amongst people in such a way that there will be a way through which civil society organizations play their role in the activities of African Union.
The African Union Commission invited Ethiopian Teachers Association to compete for election in the permanent ECOSOCC general assembly and ETA submitted its application on 30 April 2007. The aim of the invitation was to select two CSOs from each member state of the union.
