ETA Elected in to the 2nd ECOSOCC Permanent General Assembly PDF Print E-mail

Economic Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) of the African Union (AU) is one of the organs of the African union constituted from two civil society representatives from each of the member states in Africa. ECOSOCC is the civil society parliament of the Union. Among other things ECOSOCC is entitled to promote continuous dialogue between all segments of the African people on issues concerning Africa and its future.

The   first General Assembly of ECOSOCC was launched in 2008 in Tanzania. Since then attempts have been made to contribute to the cause of African union.

As the term of operation for ECOSOCC is four years, Ethiopian Teachers Association has applied for the second round membership and was successful in winning the election.

ETA Participated in EFA Regional Meeting PDF Print E-mail

Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA), invited and supported by its international affiliate Educational International (EI), has participated in the EFA Regional workshop organized in Accra, Ghana from 16-18 July 2014.

The workshop was titled “Effective Advocacy: Mobilizing for the Education we want”. In the workshop Education International affiliates from more than ninteen African countries were participated.

Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) is committed to Promoting Provision of quality education at all levels. In its attempt to attain one of its objectives, ETA has been organizing various events in order to deal with education issues, one of which is organizing education conference.

Accordingly the second Annual Education Conference to promote Quality Education was held in Oromia region, Adama town from 4-5 July 2014.

A Guest from Ministry of Education (MoE) has delivered an opening speech and expressed the commitment of the ministry to support ETA and its attempt to promote quality education.

The Ethiopian Education and Training Congress convenes every year to evaluate the successes and the challenges faced in the implementation of the Education and Training policy.

The Congress not only evaluates the successes and challenges in education sector development but also discusses on the way forward. Accordingly, the Congress was held in Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region in Hawasa from 30-31 October 2014.

As usual, Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) presented its report to the Congress on the activity performed and the challenges faced during the last Ethiopian fiscal year (2006 E.C) to attain ETA objectives.

World Teachers’ Day 2014 Celebrated in Aksum University PDF Print E-mail

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year all over the world to commemorate the signing in 1966 of the UNESCO /ILO Recommendation concerning the status of Teachers. It is also celebrated to commemorate the 1997 recommendation concerning Higher Education Teaching personnel. The main purpose of the celebration is therefore to make aware of the recommendations to the teaching professionals and to the wider public.

The theme of the 2014 World Teachers’ Day is termed ‘Invest in the Future; Invest in Teachers’. This is because what to day’s children will face in adult life cannot be predicted and so the teachers of today and tomorrow need the skills knowledge and support that will enable them to meet the diverse learning needs of the children.

The 2014 World Teachers’ Day was celebrated in Aksum University located at about 1024  km away from Addis Ababa to the northern part of the country.
