Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA), invited and supported by its international affiliate Educational International (EI), has participated in the EFA Regional workshop organized in Accra, Ghana from 16-18 July 2014.

The workshop was titled “Effective Advocacy: Mobilizing for the Education we want”. In the workshop Education International affiliates from more than nineteen African countries were participated.

Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) is committed to Promoting Provision of quality education at all levels. In its attempt to attain one of its objectives, ETA has been organizing various events in order to deal with education issues, one of which is organizing education conference.

Accordingly the second Annual Education Conference to promote Quality Education was held in Oromia region, Adama town from 4-5 July 2014.

A Guest from Ministry of Education (MoE) has delivered an opening speech and expressed the commitment of the ministry to support ETA and its attempt to promote quality education.

EI/ETA seminar on Trade union Rights organized PDF Print E-mail

A three-day Seminar on Trade Union Rights was jointly organized by Education International (EI) Africa region and the Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) in Addis Ababa from 27-29 January 2014.

The workshop which was facilitated by EI Senior coordinator for Africa, Emanuel  Fatoma, brought together  25 participants from various ETA regional branches to discuss on human and trade union rights as well as ETA’s  aims, objectives, power structure and membership services; ILO conventions as they affect teachers unions; understanding Ethiopian Labour laws; Negotiable items in UNESCO/ILO Recommendation on the status of teachers; collective bargaining- A trade union right, with simulation exercise for collective bargaining; and EI, the defender of teachers rights.

One of the objectives of Ethiopian Teachers Associations is to discharge its responsibilities towards improving access to quality education for all citizens. In order to attain this objective, the association has been performing activities such as organizing conference up on which researches made by scholars were discussed and necessary recommendation being made and forwarded to policy makers, organizing different trainings, visiting schools to see as to how the teaching and learning was being conducted, etc.

To do these activities in an organized manner, ETA and Ministry of Education have come to recognize that it is a timely agenda to prepare MoU so that both institutions act according to clearly defined roles and responsibility.

World Teachers’ Day 2013 Celebrated in Ambo university PDF Print E-mail

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year all over the world to commemorate the signing in 1966 of the UNESCO /ILO Recommendation concerning the status of Teachers. It is also celebrated to commemorate the 1997 recommendation concerning Higher Education Teaching personnel. The main purpose of the celebration is therefore to make aware of the recommendations to the teaching professionals and to the wider public.

It is repeatedly said that teachers are crucial to provision of education. But problem of quality education is becoming a common agenda in all nations. As a result the present complex situation of education system in a globalized world requires qualified and motivated teachers.
